Joanna Byrne

I am a singer-songwriter from Blackpool which is an extremely shiny seaside resort in the North-West of England. (For the geographically unaware - it's close to Manchester and Liverpool). I started playing guitar when I was about fifteen years old - I pretty much taught myself how to play through listening to and then learning Nirvana's Unplugged in New York album.

I began performing live at the age of sixteen with my legendary friend Nic in a duo we called Cornelia. When Nic moved to Sheffield I continued playing live on my own in local pubs and clubs. I have played in a number of different bands over the past seven years, from a dodgy REM cover band (playing a feminised Mike Mills) to a brief dalliance with the bass guitar in the short-lived but ace band 'Lady in the Radiator'.

I am currently concentrating on performing original material on my own or with my band The Neon Trees. My music has been described as acoustic rock (by me and some drunk in a pub) and I can be found rocking acoustically and otherwise in venues across the country. I am in the process of writing and recording a solo album which will be available through this website Autumn 2005.
